30% relief on SDLT

30% relief on SDLT

Postby Global2010 on Thu Mar 24, 2011 10:38 pm

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone has heard of this before? I have been informed that if I were to find a solicitor who had signed up to a scheme regarding STLD relief, I could apply for personal relief of up to a third of the tax I pay on the residential property. It seems the scheme is expensive to join, and would require an investment by the solicitor up approx £700,000 however they gain from obtaining the majority of the tax relief, returnin just a third back to the client.

I haven't been able to find any information on this, so I just wondered if anyone here might know anything?

Thanks

I too am not aware of any such relief as such.

I suspect it's an avoidance scheme - possibly involving partnerships and/or companies.

If you still wish to proceed :

1.Ask to see all the paperwork.
2. Has Counsel's opinion be obtained? If so, check it out.
3. What are the guarantees?

Confused as the original post is, is this perhaps a scheme where the fees equal 70% of the SDLT-saving?
