Advice on self assessment

Postby no8080 on Thu Jan 05, 2006 6:26 am

Hi,

I am an IT contractor, I work under an umbrella company rather than my own ltd company.

I am paid the minimum wage and the rest is taken as dividends each week.

The umbrella company charges me £35 a week as an admin charge, this covers my insurances etc.

Can I claim this admin fee on my self assessment? If so under what category?

Many thanks

Neil

The normal procedure is that the admin charge (£35 in your case) is deducted from the income received by the umbrella company and is deducted as an expense before calculating the net profit on which the dividend is based. So, the £35 has already been claimed and you cannot claim it a second time.
