Angola Tax rates and relief

Angola Tax rates and relief

Postby Baza26b on Tue Sep 27, 2011 10:41 pm

Hi,
I am going to be working in Angola on a semi drilling rig for 2 years, 28 days on 28 days off. I am a UK resident and work for a European company, I am out with PAYE. Is anyone aware of the tax situation (%)? Can I claim any tax relief that has been paid by my company? I have been told that my company will pay any tax liable to the Angolan authorities on my behalf without it affecting my pay.

Cheers

I worked for 10 years in Angola, good luck....

I always worked the 90 days rule, so was not really therefore paying UK tax, but it should be noted that Angola is NOT on the list of countries with a double taxation agreement with the UK.
I believe that it still may be possible to discount tax paid there, but you'd have to speak to an accountant.

I woudl defintely speak to a good Tax accountant BEFORE you start this job, no matter what.
Avoid the pitfalls.!!!

One problem you wil have is getting the necessary documentation to prove that tax has been paid in Angola, on your behalf.
The Angolan bureaucracy is a law unto itself.
I certainly heard of some guys who worked with me, basically giving up trying to get the necessary paperwork.

Better spending half your time off somewhere outside the UK, and avoiding UK tax altogther.

Note that if you are starting soon, you will have to work overseas until at least April 2013, if you want to attain non residence status, and therefore tax free status, (if you spend less thasn 90 days a year in the UK).
