Capital allowances on integrated F&F in a Guest House?

Capital allowances on integrated F&F in a Guest House?

Postby WHA on Thu Sep 29, 2011 9:45 am

I've a guest house and we're extending it to provide owners accommodation. I'm wondering whether we can still claim capital allowances on the integrated F&F in the extension? I know that we could if the extension were, say, a guests bedroom or dining room, or whatever, but is the capital allowance claim blocked because the usage will be the proprietors, or is it still allowed because it's part of the overall guest house building?

Dear WHA,

I believe the answer this is no you cannot claim capital allowances on what is effectively a domestic dwelling all be i that it has been built as an extension to a commercial property. When somebody buys a guest house which already has owner accommodation and the owner commissions a professional capital allowances claims
company to produce the claim they have to apportion out of the claim any expenditure that is related to the domestic accommodation.

I hope this helps although its probably not the answer you wanted.

Regards
