Car allowance instead of increased basic - good or bad?

from an employess point of view... is having a car allowance on top of your basic salary a benefit or a negative when compared to just an increased basic?? For example, is a basic of £25k plus £3k car allowance better than just a basic of £28k???

It is unlikely to make any difference, unless you belong to a Company pension scheme which does not include the car allowance as pensionable earnings.

If you are doing a significant number of business miles, the car allowance could be better depending on its structure.
