Change of name on deeds

Postby ADND on Tue May 16, 2006 3:20 am

I have separated 13 months ago from my husband. The house which we jointly owned for the last 19 years has remained in both our joint names. Now he is planning to go and live abroad and not leave any contact details but says he is willing to change the name on the deeds beforehand. How do I go about this? Is it in my interest to put my sons name and my own or just my own? Also is it advisable to also change the names on the mortage which is also joint but my son has been contributing to since my husband left. I would like to be able to sell or rent the house in the near future without having problems regarding ownership. Many thanks, ADND.

you will not be able to change the name on the deeds without changing the mortgage also. Therefore you should go and see your property solicitor for his/her advice.
