Claiming VAT back for fixtures in new properties

Postby Anthony Jones on Thu May 31, 2007 1:04 am

I am about to buy a new home and will be having oak floors fitted throughout. This is extra to the house cost and is being organised by myself and not with the builder. I understand that I will not have to pay VAT on the cost of the flooring as this will be a permanant fixture...is this the case and if so, how do I claim the VAT back / pay for the floor exclusive of VAT? Thank you

If its your own private residence you cant get VAT back and you will have to pay VAT on the cost.
If you get a VAT registered tradesman to but and fit the floor you may be able to strike a deal with him.... Adrian S

The floor is not part of, or an option in the purchase contract so Vat is chargeable. Regards Peter
