Corporation Tax

Corporation Tax

Postby uknorth on Thu Apr 21, 2011 4:12 am

Hi,

I registered a limited company 3 years ago. I haven't done any transactions yet under that company? Last year I submitted dormant accounts. My questions are:

1. Do I need to pay Corporation Tax?

2. Can I submit my accounts online as a dormant company? If yes, can somebody please give me the web link?

Thanks.

1 - there is no CT to pay if you have not traded and made a profit
2 - yes you can file for dormant company online if you have registered for webfiling with Companies House.
Look near the bottom for form DCA

Note that HMRC should also be made aware that your business is dormant or non trading. What did you put on your original CT41g form? See HMRC blurb below to make sure all areas are covered- http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/ct/getting-started/trading.htm

Even if the company has not yet traded, does it hold any investments (interest bearing savings/deposits)?

Thanks for your advice. I have found the link for dormant accounts form and submitted my accounts as a dormant company. I also received a letter from HMRC asking to pay Corporation Tax. Should I just ignore that letter or should send back the attached payslip with word "NIL" on it?

Thx.

No, the company does not have any savings or investments. Actually it has not done any business transaction so far. There is a balance of £8.00 in the bank account.

The £8 in the bank account represents the share capital (possibly less some expenses of formation)?

Is any interest received on this?
