Do directors pay a different rate of Ni as to employees ?
I ask as most payroll softwares ask you to tick a box saying whether the employee is a Director or not.

Not a different rate, but directors have an annual limit for NI rather than the limit for the week/month which employees have. This prevents them loading the majority of their income in one month to avoid NI.

What is that amount and what would the break up be for lower earning threshold and earning threshold if you want to take the full amount without the company needing to take NIC

The rates are published on the HMRC website. See http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/nic.htm.

AS "TN" pointed out in second post of the thread, the same rate applies to directors and other employees.
