Dormant Company

Dormant Company

Postby stematt1 on Fri Jun 17, 2011 12:09 pm

Hi all,

Im new to this and would appreciate any advice.

My company didnt trade in either 09/10 or 10/11.

My accountants wanted to submit my CT accounts for 09/10 last year but I told them I didnt want them to as their charges were quite steep and because I hadnt traded I thought I could do it myself. I then did nothing (!) and received letters from both HMRC and Companies House earlier this year. I thought my accountants had made HMRC aware that I was dormant and so wouldnt receive any furhter correspondence.

I have spoken to Companies House and they dont want any accounts off me just as DS01 form saying I want to close the company.

I spoke to my accountants and they have offered to close my company for £504 and that all manner of things need to be done.

All I want to do is regularise the situation. Can anyone offer any advice?

What would HMRC want from me?

kind regards

Steve

If the company has never done anything you may find HMRC will happily mark it as dormant on their systems and cancel the penalties. Ring the number on the nagging forms they send and find out.

Hi all,

I am also very new to this and am extremely glad i found this forum.
If there is any body here that could help me here i would be extremely grateful.

I'm trying to complete my CT600 form and am stuck on the 'Accounting Policies' section.

I started the company through an agent, as the company hasn't started trading cancelled the agent. I have had a request from HMRC for a Tax Return.
I have opted to file the accounts as a dormant company as I wasn't aware that this hadn't already been done by the agent.

The only entry on the sheet and that filed with CH is 1000 shares at £1 each with two directors each with 1 share at £1 which have not been paid for.

Everything appears to be OK until I get to the point where I have to make notes as to the Accounting policies and have no idea what to enter. By default 'Accounting Policies' is the only box checked.. I then have a number of boxes for notes:
Basis of measurement and preparation of accounts
Turnover Policy
Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy
etc
None are marked as required, however if I try to proceed I get an error 'Please enter at least one note on this page' the box highlighted is 'Other accounting policies'

What I would like to know is:

1. If we send the form CT41G advising of dormant company do we still need to file the accounts? (advice to date is we don't)
2. the answers to the CT600 if the answer to no.1 is yes.

Additional info.. returns filed with companies house to date have been as dormant.. not trading .

Would the answer to this query be the same reply as written above by Incredulum or am i requiring more information?

Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to read my enquiry.

"Accounting policy" - I'd suggest "UK GAAP". (= "UK Generally Accepted Accounting Policies")

1. You need to file the ACCOUNTS with Companies House; You shouldn't need to file the tax return with HMRC. But ring them and get them to click the "no" box on their system.
