DTA agreement - self assessment Norway

DTA agreement - self assessment Norway

Postby daneboomer on Tue Jan 24, 2012 7:11 pm

Hi!

I have to fill in a tax self assessment (tomorrow!) and was looking for some help with it...

Basically I lived abroad for three years and one of those years is the last tax year for which I have to fill in a tax return i.e. 6 April 2010 - 5 April 2011. I came back from Norway in September 2010 so will certainly have to declare my Norwegian income in that period.

Can anyone tell me this: how do I do this without having to pay tax on it - AGAIN?!

THANK YOU!!

P.S. Would TaxCalc help me with this?

oh God, now I'm more confused. I read this on HMRC web. Basically the self assessment page is asking me if I need to complete a "foreign" section. It sounds like I don't, actually, and that my income from my foreign job can go on the "employment" section ("foreign employment income goes on the Employment page") but then it says:

The Foreign section should also be completed if "overseas income has had foreign tax deducted and you want to claim relief from double taxation, for example by claiming Foreign Tax Credit Relief."

Given that I had been absent from the country from Sept 2007 to Sept 2010 I haven't a clue what to do...obviously I don't want to pay tax twice but I know I need to be upfront so I don't know what to declare and where!

Help PLEASE!

(Thanks)
