EC sales list

Do HMRC charge penalty for late filing of EC sales list? It is late by 14 days and it is first time since one sales to EU country.

historically, unless you were 'refusing' to complete them then you had a 99.9999999% chance of getting no penalty.

Due to intra-community fraud HMRC are tightening up on this now, and seem to be issuing penalties more regularly, however it is more a case of penalties issued to people who have 3 or 4 returns outstanding rather than 1 a few days late.

I would guess, worst case scenario for you would be a "please file on time" letter....

I have had several already - still no fines ;)

If the sale was a one off then stop reading now.

If your making low value supplies regularly then you can apply for a special less detailed ECSL, which basically requires 1 annual return completed with your customer details and nominal values. This is subject to application and acceptance by HMRC though.

Just a thought (in case the filing deadline becomes a pain for regular low value EC supplies).
