feeling lost

feeling lost

Postby vince on Tue Aug 31, 2010 10:18 pm

I bought a property 10 years ago in my home town after getting contract work following a depressing period of unemployment and living in rotten rented accomodation. My partner, who is also from my home town, lives in another city and most of the contract work was there so I lived with her in her solely owned property. I then rented out my home, intending to move back there should I get work closer to my home town. That didnt happen. The employment situation got worse in my home town and I eventually found full time permenant work just over 4 years ago in my partners City. I have not rented my house out for the past 3 years and pay council tax there.

Its clear that I will not be moving back and I would like to sell but now fear I am goig to have to pay CGT which will make it hard for me to buy my own property.

Can anyone help?

Please advise:

1. Did you ever live in the property, if so for how long?
2. Was your work based in the same town during that time?
3. If you have a partner and live with him/her (no offence intended, just being diverse), why do you want to buy your own property? Are you going to live there?
4. What is the distance between the two locations?
