First timer questions!

First timer questions!

Postby frankie_c on Sat Dec 10, 2011 3:30 pm

Hi

I am about to complete a tax return for the first time. I rented out a property in 2010/11 and I am liable to pay tax on the income.

Anyway, I got the form through the post today, and will soon complete it online. The form asks questions about my employment income (I am employed full time), income from bank account interest (quite small etc)...I assume I have to fill all these in? (even though my tax return was prompted by my rental property only?).

Thanks!

Chris

When you complete a (personal) tax return you do indeed have to include everything - even if the income is taxed at source like for employment income or bank interest. But you also enter the amount of tax deducted, so the tax calculation takes everything into account. You can't do a tax return for just your property income.
