form 17 & rental income split

form 17 & rental income split

Can one use form 17 to divide unequal rental income (property is held 5:95%) between father and daughter? Form 17 is marked for "husband and wife or civil partners"... so is there any other such form for friends or father/daughter? Please advise.

No, Form 17 does not apply. A simple letter to HMRC detailed the ownership will do the job. However as you are not married then you can choose the ration even 100% for the daughter as long as you tell them. Regards Peter

Form 17 is, as you say, only applicable to husband/wife civil partners living together.

There is no requirement to infom HMRC of the split of rental income between father/daughter. The only info re the Tax Return is a simple declaration that you own property jointly.

Supply the split only when asked for it by HMRC (they may not in fact ask for it).
