Gifts to parents

Gifts to parents

Postby JIMMYJOHN on Wed Aug 31, 2011 6:45 pm

Sorry if this is the wrong section, but here is my question.

How much money can I give my elderly mother as a gift, without either of us having any tax liability.

Just to clarify the money is not for any specific purpose, just a gift.

Thanks

As much as you like, but the value will remain in your estate for 7 whole years as this would be a PET Potentially Exempt Transfer. I assume the value is less that £325,000. Regards Peter
