This is the first time i'm posting here. My name is Bogdan, i'm romanian and i'm not very fammiliar with your country laws so i'm trying to figure out some things with your help
I work in the field of visual effects and i got a job here, in uk, about 6 months ago so the first thing that i had to do when i came here was to settle up my legal papers.
I went to the job center but they told me i can't work as a regular employee because of the country's regulations wich don't allow the romanians to work as a regular employees(where the hiring company pay the taxes for employees) so they suggested me to become a self employed and pay the taxes myself... so i did that and i got the NI number.
The next step was to register myself as a self employed at HMRC and pay the taxes monthly, step wich i didn't made from neglijence...i thought it's not a rush to do that and i postponed it for a month or two...time in which i forgot about it.
The company i was working for agreed to pay me a certain amount of money as a wage + the money for taxes that i had to pay myself (instead of letting them to pay it IF i was a regular employee). Those 6 months, they only paid me the wage money but when i asked for the money that i needed to pay my taxes(i remembered that i have to pay my tax) they didn't wanted and we started a fight in wich they decided to fire me.
Now i can't really do anything about that because in the contract it's mentioned only the amount of money wich i was supposed to get as a wage. So i've been tricked and it's my mistaked because i allowed that. I can live with that.
Now, my problem is that i don't know how to proceed further as long as i didn't registered to HMRC and even if i was registered i wouldn't have had the money to pay the tax.
So, the propper question it's that: Do i still have to pay taxes as long as i did not registered to HMRC but i still got the NI number ? Can they ask me to pay taxes according to the fact that i got a NI number ?
I hope you understand my point. If it's anything unclear, i will reformulate.
Thank you.
