HMRC Gateway account / Registering for SA

Postby ck_uk » Mon Dec 19, 2016 6:27 pm

Just found out today that Oct 5 was the deadline for registering for self assessment.
I've already setup a gateway account online (prior to Oct 5) for the purpose of checking my historical NICs and want to register for SA. However I have since forgotten my password, but when I request to reset this online the HMRC page asks which of the following services I've used online : Self assessment, VAT or Shared Workspace (whatever that is). The answer for me is none of these, and says I need to create a new account, but why should I need to do this? The online customer support 'bot' is less than useful.
