Hi Kotake
I had situation when cheque was cashed from my account - £250 - I panicked completely as I could remember giving anybody a cheque for this amount and I couldn't find the cheque book itself. so i asked my bank to give me details who has cashed my money. in no time they delivered to me a copy of cheque and account money went in. it was my credit card repayment to M&S(I remembered straight away when I saw it and it was quite embarassing). So I can not possibly see how this fraud can happen and how HMRC can't trace this. they have cheque no that they sent you, they can see when this cheque was cashed on their bank statement.
banks are very good at this these days. we had money going out of our business account, not big amounts 20-100 GBP, but bank staff noticed straight away that tose operations were not ours, phoned us to check and refunded the money (we tried to ask them how they notice those things but they wouln't tell so you wouldnt be able to use it for wrong reasons), the only thing they gave out that it was different computer form usually that payment was made.

The more details about the withdrawal of deposit can be gained by the bank and a bank authority can do it for you that who is the debtor of the payment.

To me I guess that your claim company is responsible for it.

Hi Kotake

What was the outcome of this stolen cheque? Did HMRC repay you?

I have just had a similar thing happen. I had a cheque 'delivered' late last year and I have just been told that it has been cashed. I certainly never cashed it. I am now very anxious that I wont be paid.

Any help I can get would be appreciated

Thanks
