Is it Just Me...

...or has HMRC plumbed new depths with its reporting of the Grint case?

Given that everyone was at pains to acknowledge that this was not a nefarious Tax Scheme but simply a difference of opinion about interpretation of the legislation, why does HMRC think it OK

a) to happily identify a taxpayer where there is no obvious reason to do so
b) to make light of a taxpayer's having to pay more tax
c) to make out that it is defending "our" best interests in doing so?

He's a taxpayer. Last I checked, HMRC works for taxpayers. He's not broken or 'bent' any rules. It seems that someone has misunderstood how to change their accounting reference date under SA. That hardly looks to me like cause for HMRC to give itself a pat on the back and tell the world..?

Regards all,
