Issues with typing long posts

Issues with typing long posts

Postby Kitty Kat on Tue Dec 07, 2010 1:44 pm

Hi all

When I make long posts on here (often when I quote another long post) I find at a certain length I can no longer see what I am typing. If I scroll down to reveal where I am at I can see the words, but the second I start to type the view jumps up so the current line isn't visible.

Anyone else have this and any idea how to fix?

Avoid long posts?

I rarely bother reading the longer posts (particularly as they are no more likely to accurate decribe the relevant facts).

Press the enter key couple of times, then move cursor to carry on typing the post. This way you can see what you are typing but you may find at times to time the post/web page is jumping up or down!

Look at the bottom-right corner of the POST A REPLY box: it looks different and by click-and-drag action, you can make the reply box as big as you like.

Iif you think a long post is necessary and you have the necessary technical knowledge, send it to us as an article: we'll post it and you can then link to the article from your forum answer.

Also, speaking in general, when quoting, keep only the bit which is relevant to your answer, not the whole post.

I need to quote smaller bits then :)
Re your first point, I can't resize my box... Regardless, I will just try and keep my quotes shorter.

I often type in Word and then copy/paste - the main advantage being that I can use spellcheck. This deals with the problem of the window size too. Pedants can't make basic spelling mistakes or typos ... :)

I agree with mullet about using Word and copy/paste. When I did my first long reply the website had timed out by the time I came to submit it, so I had to do it all again.
