Losses C/fwd

Losses C/fwd

Postby JESS9GC on Fri Dec 09, 2011 4:49 pm

I formed a limited company and loaned to it £x. The company is tied to a 3 yr contract in one trade and sadly made a loss in the first year, in order to offset this loss I introduced sales from an entirely different profitable trade creating only a small loss in the second year and the third year will be the same. I am told it is perfectly acceptable to offset the losses against profits while both aspects of the business are running. Once the three year contract is complete it had been my intention to continue running the profitable side of the business and offset previous or b/fwd losses against future profits.
I am told this is not permissible. Can any one give advice please.

What is the first trade, what is the second trade, where did you find this entirely different trade, and why did you set up a new company to do the first trade if you already had the second trade elsewhere?
