National insurance contributions

Hi there i have been self employed for the last 5 yrs and havent paid my class 2 nis when i should have been,i phoned up nis helpline and have set up future payments when i get class 2 bill do i have to pay it as i have ten years contributions and am happy enough to lose the gap for self employment, also what other penalties will i occur. Any advice would be good

As you haven't paid Class 2 NIC, I assume you haven't registered as self employed with HMRC. You'll have to submit accounts covering the time since you started, and they'll charge you penalties and interest. I suggest you get an accountant with experience of back duty investigations.
