Never filled in P85

Never filled in P85

Postby Ihaveaquestion on Thu Nov 10, 2011 9:33 am

I have been out of the UK around 15 years now. When I left, around 1996, I was probably too naive or happy-go-lucky to even know about the P85 form's existence.

I have not received any IR inquiries since, but if I do receive them, would they accept it if I supply alternative proof that I am living overseas, for example all the work permits and spouse visas stamped in my passport, or some of my payslips from my host country? Or would they be much more strict?

How much or what kind of proof would they want me to supply?

Thank you in advance.

I doubt they will even ask, unless they have a reason to? Although if you owed any back taxes they may be after you for this. They probably didnt send you any correspondence because they didnt know where you were...

If they do ask, I expect you have a few bills lying around to prove you werent here eg electric bill, credit card bill showing all purchases abroad etc etc
