Non resident - self emplyed in UK

Non resident - self emplyed in UK

Postby edspa on Mon Aug 08, 2011 1:52 pm

Hi all,

I would like to clarify this situation.

I am going to create a limited company and register as a self employed in the UK, I am a Spanish citizen but I do not have my residency in Spain (I live from 6 to 12 months in each country).
I will always work outside the UK but my clients could be UK/non- UK residents. Am I supposed to pay taxes only on my UK income? If I work outside the UK, is this considered UK income?

Thanks

If you set up a limited company you will not be self-employed, but a director, which means employment for tax purposes.

Depends on where the business is based - if you set up a UK company, and spend part of the year in the UK, working with some UK clients, it is likely to be a UK based business, subject to UK tax.

Your personal situation could vary from year to year, depending on whether you are UK resident in any particular year, although you will always be subject to UK tax on earnings arising in the UK.
