Online paid surveys

Postby Los16482 on Thu Sep 08, 2005 6:23 am

I am considering joining one of the sites where you are paid to carry out surveys - I have researched it to avoid joining a site that is a con!!

My question is - do you have to declare income from this kind of thing?? Its unlikely to generate much money at all and wont be regular.... just have no idea about the tax rules - lots of the sites talk about ebay and the tax rules for selling...but what about selling opinions?????

In short, yes you will have to declare this income. As you have stated, you are not selling anything, you are providing a service for whoever is requesting these surveys.

Let me know if you would like me to send you a business start-up guide. It contains a lot of useful information about your tax and legal requirements.

If this is your only source of income then you will not have any tax to pay if it does not exceed your personal allowance (currently £4,895 for most people).

There is no de minimis limit for declaration and if you have other income in excess of your personal allowance then there will be tax to pay on your income from this new source.

Email with your address and I'll pop a guide in the post to you.

If you have other income in excess of your Personal Allowances, any survey income will be taxable. There is likely to be some allowable expenses to arrive at a taxable profit.
