PAYE Responsibilities

Postby karlfyfe on Fri Jan 06, 2006 4:47 am

I recently got hit with a 10K tax bill as two employees had failed to implement the corrrect tax code so I was paying tax at 22% not 40%. Employer says it used the tax code supplied by the tax man and the tax man says they gace the correct code.

I have tried to fight this but have had to pay 6.5k and am due to pay 3.5k this year for 03/04.

I presume when you say employees you mean employers. This sort of thing can happen if you move around employers and are paid over the year more that the allowance 22% tax. Unfortunatly if you have been paid the money then you have to pay the tax. Might be worth consulting an accountant to see if there are any allowances etc which may help
