personal allowance entitlement

personal allowance entitlement

Postby michaelhunteroz on Sat Feb 04, 2012 8:50 am

Hello, my name is Michael and I own a home in the UK, where for my entire life I have lived and worked. I have spent the last 2 years traveling and not working and I am now about to return to the UK. I have placed a tenent in my home and have been filling out the self assessment tax form and up until now I have had no problems, but I now have a tax question.

As I have been out of the UK for 2 years am I still entitled to my personal tax allowance on all UK generated income from the rent on my home, even though I have not been in the UK for that period of time. I have been paying tax on all repairs that have needed to be done on my home in that time period.

I guess im just wondering if I am still entitled to my personal allowance under these circumstances.

I thank you for your help and advice im advance, as it would be greatly appreciated at this time.

Thank you again

kind regards

Michael

Yes you are entitled to your PA. Have you registered as a non resident landlord. ?

hi Peter, just one more thing I have not yet registered as a non resident landlord, is this something that I should do?

If I have not yet done this so far does this effect my tax in any way or anything else in any way for that matter?

Thank you Peter

Kind Regards

As you are non resident then you should register as a NRL. This allows facilitates rental income to be paid gross and for you to complete an annual SATR. Regards Peter
