Gift shares to wife but keep shares in husband's account

Postby jason13 » Tue Aug 11, 2015 4:29 pm

I'd like to gift shares to my wife but since it's difficult to transfer them to another investment account I'd like to leave them in my account (which is not a joint account). Is this possible? What kind of paper work would I have to fill out?

I don't mind owning the shares but I want my wife to receive the dividends. Maybe an alternative to giving the shares would be to declare that she receives the beneficial interest. Is this possible, and if so, how?

Ownership is a matter of fact, so a Deed of Gift detailing the shares being transferred to her should be sufficient evidence of intent.
You'll then effectively be holding them as a bare trustee.
With a pinch of salt take what I say, but don't exceed your RDA

Can I do this myself DIY or do I need a solicitor?

If you're a qualified para legal you can DIY, otherwise I'd use a solicitor.
