Furnished Holiday Letting - any tax tips?

Postby neil1967 » Sun Apr 17, 2016 1:47 pm

My wife and I are buying a house in the UK without a mortgage, initially to be used as an FHL, but later on to be our primary residence. We currently live abroad (renting) and don't own any other properties, but are UK tax resident - my wife completes a UK tax return. I am employed and my wife is self-employed, and is a basic rate tax payer. The house will be in my wife's sole name. Are there any simple guidelines for minimising our tax burden, or indeed any traps to avoid - I currently do my wife's tax return and am reasonably familiar with income tax, but I'm not at all clear on CGT.

Thanks in advance

Neil

Minimise profits. Keep the rent low.
