Help Needed - With what to Replace CASIO MJ-100 Calculator?

Postby Lambs » Sat Feb 04, 2017 9:53 pm

Dear All,

I am disconsolate that my faithful friend, through thick and thin, is now so faint as to be illegible in low light (when all my best work is done).

Two useful things did I acquire in my thankfully brief foray into auditing:

The ability to add without having to check the screen ( do we call that touch-adding, in the same way as we might say "touch-type"?). I am not sure if that skill is in any way related to the fact that almost all of my clients owe exactly £100,000,000.00 ERR tax...

A strange feeling of being only half-dressed if I do not have at least one Bic 4-colour pen in my workbag. (I am not sure others would call this useful, but ready access to green does sometimes help to break up the day from monotonous red. Perhaps that should be monochromatic, but I think you get the gist).

Anyhew, it's on its uppers, and I need a replacement, with decent keys for the touch-adding-up, etc. Although I never, EVER, make mistakes, the "check and review" function was very useful.

I ask only because, if I have understood the Casio website correctly, they've discontinued all the mid-size replacements and the only calculator left with "check and review" is the size of two house-bricks. I smell a conspiracy...

Regards all,

Ah, the luxury of being able to think about something that isn't related to an SA 100 / 800 / 900, etc...

With warm regard to all our personal/trust (SA) co-conspirators,

call me old fashioned but i have always stuck with the casio fx-82 Albeit the latest plastic one aint a patch on the old metal one that i probably broke playing calculator track and field back(aka Daley Thompsons Decathlon) in the good old days.

Dare i say something with the biggest buttons possible nowadays?

Anyone?
I love the fact that this was such a pressing issue that it kept you awake until 2-32 in the morning. Did you get any sleep at all?

I've had a classic Casio MX-8 (approx £5 online) sat next to me for about 5 years.

Although, to be honest, 9 out of 10 times I've got excel open, Ctrl+N and plug it in there gives me more flexibility to see what I'm doing... calculators seem so archaic...
