gift from sister

Postby Silverbirdie » Fri Jul 07, 2017 10:11 pm

My sister wants to donate some money to both her sisters. We are all Dutch but she (the donorr) has lived in Switserland for 15 years and I live in the UK and have been here for 41 years.
Can she just transfer this to my bank or do we have to notify anyone?? Are there any limits?

You should be fine from a UK perspective but there could well be Swiss cantonal gift tax depending on values and the Canton in which your (donor) sister lives.

There is a useful summary here:

You don't mention where your other sister is located. If in the Netherlands, she is probably okay but it is worth checking she is not liable as a recipient.
