CGT and PPR

Postby flatree » Tue Aug 15, 2017 10:51 am

Hi,
My wife and I sold a jointly-owned second property in January 2017. In the summer of 2014 we lived at the property for 5 weeks as our sole residence (hence our principal private residence) after selling our last main home and before buying our next main home. We can verify this period of residence. I know it's a very short time, but does this have an effect on our CGT now we have sold the second property? Thanks.

Highly doubt you can claim temporary residency as PPR. HMRC need to see a high level of permanence and intent for PPR to apply

HMRC would see right through a PPR claim based on 1 month's occupation in my opinion.

Thanks, what I thought. It was not my intention to pull a fast one, but to understand the rules correctly.
