Qualifying Year / Class 2 NIC

Qualifying Year / Class 2 NIC

Postby Louise2011 on Tue Mar 01, 2011 12:34 pm

A self-employed person has to have 30 qualifying years to qualify for the state pension.

For a self-employed person, does a year in which they made full Class 2 NIC count as a ''qualifying year'?

That is, even if they had a very small income that year, or even made a loss? Does the fact that they still paid NIC Class 2, and didn't apply for an exemption, mean this would still be a qualifying year?

Thank you
