Question on Temporary Accomodation in Relocation Allowance

Question on Temporary Accomodation in Relocation Allowance

Postby somghosh on Wed Sep 01, 2010 2:45 pm

Hi,

I am moving from Hong Kong to London to take up a new job. The contract mentions a relocation allowance of GBP 6000.

I had a look at 480.pdf , specifically Section 7, from hmrc.gov.uk, and have looked to 4-5 other threads on this site in this regards and still have the following doubt below:

1) I will take up a serviced apartment/hotel/temporary rented apartment for around 8 weeks - 10 weeks, before I decide on a permanent rented apartment (never stayed in London, wiling to spend some extra time knowing people and places before I finalise on the apartment)

Can this be claimed as part of relocation expense (under temp accomodation), specifically even the temporary rented apartment? .. Are there any conditions to satisfy?

Thanks in advance for any generous advice.
