Reclaiming VAT on exports to China

Postby Sunshine-products » Mon Sep 26, 2016 9:14 pm

Hi,

I'm in the process of setting up a business exporting goods from UK to China.

I have recently been refused VAT registration because I won't be selling VATable goods

So how can I claim back VAT from purchases for the business?

You cannot reclaim VAT unless you make. or intend to make, taxable supplies. You can Appeal HMRC's decision; or you can provide more information; or you can start in business, and then re-apply.
Or (and this is the best advice) seek fuller professional support to get you through this process.

Thanks for the reply, but let me rephrase the info....

I will be exporting goods to China, the goods are taxable but the tax rate is 0% as it is an export outside the EU

Should this change the decision by HMRC?
