I have to pay rent on half the house I occupy to my late wife's discretionary trust. I find that the local letting agents and surveyors that I have contacted so far have no experience of valuing the rental of HALF a house which is undivided. Some say value the whole house and divide by two, while others say they would base the valuation on which rooms are available for the exclusive use of the (imaginary) tenant, and which will be shared. This latter approach seems more realistic. What is the common approach elswhere?
