i did a few nights at a bar trying to be a dj, got paid £50-£70 on about 5-10 occassions (have since quit). I completed the slip given to me by the manager each time - name, address etc.
I've since recieved a letter form the tax man asking for details of thsi second income - i don't have any exact records though?! Should i let this slide as i didn't complete my NI number? Or, shoudl i be worried?
I only earnt around £400. I quit as i realise dthe potential tax head ache wasn't wortht the trouble - my cost more or less matched my 'income'.
any help greatly appreciatted.

You are liable to tax only if you carry on a trade.
If it is a hobby, there is no liability to tax.
In your case, it is worth replying to the tax office and explain that you were just trying it out and in most probability, your expenses and claims would more than wipe out the small income received.
