Self - employed couple of quick questions

Self - employed couple of quick questions

Postby CezzaW on Fri Jan 27, 2012 5:28 pm

HI
My friends dad is seriously ill in hospital and has been since June last year we phoned up HMRC and they just won't help and have told them they either submit a tax return or be charged so I'm doing what I can to help.

He does work as a 1st aid trainer and For the St Johns
1. He has previously claimed £9 a day when he has done training for refreshments - is this allowable I can't find anything about it

2. Also the allowance for uniform because he is St Johns and has to wear specific uniform can he claim the £140 flat rate for Ambulance staff on active service or is it the £60 flat rate ?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated
Thanks

If this were me, I'd do a return based on similar basis to what he has always done, including any claims etc, tick estimated return and give circumstances and advise a revised return will be submitted as soon as possible given the circumstances. Also include a note in the additional information box about the circumstances and what you have used for the tax return figures etc. I doubt any sensible HMRC member of staff would argue against something like this.
