Selling Business

Postby shaner01 on Sat Oct 01, 2011 1:51 pm

I have freehold shop and the basement.I have been trading as stationers for last 30 years.I am going to be 60yrs. in Dec 11.I have a customer who would like to rent the premises but not as stationers.
I understand,if I let out the premises in Oct '11,I will have two years from then to sell my business assets,to benefit the Business Tax Relief.
I intend to sell the business assets ,ie freehold shop and the basement together with tenants to the family member at market price,next year.
My questions;
It will be retirement sale,therefore what would be CGT rate?

Business Tax Relief
Do you mean entrepreneurs' relief? The CGT rate for disposals where ER applies is 10%, subject to a lifetime limit of £10M qualifying gains.
