Sending money back onshore from offshore

Sending money back onshore from offshore

Postby bendecko on Thu Aug 11, 2011 12:12 am

Hi All.

I'm a UK national living in a tax haven. I'm resident here. I make money Internationally, not UK generated.

I've got an IoM savings account where I send money.

I'd like to send money from that account to my old UK current account - to pay off credit cards, subscriptions for magazines etc.

I like to keep a low profile, just because I don't want any hassle.

a) Is this OK? I don't know if my old UK bank would be that happy as I think I'm technically supposed to be UK resident to retain it.

b) Also I'm non-UK resident, and therefore all legal, but I still don't want any hassle from HMRC.. What are the chances?

Thanks for your time.

Not really sure of your point.

Other things being equal, holding a UK bank account probably does not amount to adopting a low profile.

Banks etc are required and do make returns to HMRC re their depositers albeit only, I believe, where interest is credited thereon.

Despite tax haven status, many such countries are now party to double tax agreements with the UK re information exchange and tax enforcement procedures.

However, if you're not contravening any laws you should have no problems.

Thank you Maths - you seem to be top contributor on this site. Is it yours? Keep up the good work anyway, these things are very confusing and worrying for a lot of people.

Any idea about the bank getting upset because I'm no longer UK resident?

Cheers
