Some guidance needed - Thanks

Postby DerekWilson on Sun Feb 07, 2010 8:07 pm

Hello All,

I have a need for some simple tax advice and guidance to help point me in the right direction.

I am a self employed therapist living in the UK.
My business has ticked along for the last 12 years with just enough money to get by.....however.....
Last year I started selling some of my digital products in "partnership" with someone in the USA.
This is proving to be very lucrative and I am starting to get some serious money coming in every month.
In the next three weeks, I am off to New York to formalise this business and therefore need some information before I go.
Assuming that I can get paid in $ to anywhere in the world (including the UK) what would be the best thing to do for tax purposes?
i hope I have given an accurate description and someone can help.

Cheers!

As a quick answer

You could deploy a trading company in a low tax jurisdiction and divert part of the profit into that jurisdiction through engaging in triangular trade. Caution should be had to CFC and Transfer pricing rules.

You could also move the rights of your products if they are digital into a low tax jurisdiction and pay royalties for the right to use them in the UK.

There are a lot you can do, it really depends on what your specific circumstances are.

Hope that helps. let me know if you want me to elaborate on any of the above
Its just a ride..
