stamp duty avoidance

Postby njhunt on Thu Jan 13, 2005 1:21 am

We are hoping to purchase a house for about £250,000 to £260,000 but I am reluctant to pay 3% SD. I am aware that the IR have tightened up on paying for fixtures etc to reduce purchase price. Am I allowed to offer £250K for the house and offer to pay the vendors stamp duty on their new property thus keeping my purchase below the 3% level but ensuring that the vendors are not out of pocket.

Many thanks for any help given.

Yours sincerely.

Hi N Hunt

This would still not avoid the situation as part of the same transaction.

Perhaps if you unconditionally gave them £10 now - but who would advise you to do that!

Always available to assist.
