stamp duty exemption

We are buying a new build house £124,950, we have been told that it is exempt from stamp duty as it is a regeneration area. Is this correct as we dont want any nasty surprises later if it is wrong.
It is in Co Durham, Derwentside district, although semi rural it was a predominently coalfields area but appears to be slowly attracting new investment/building to the area.

It will be free of stamp duty if it is in a disadvantaged area. To find out whether it is a disadvantaged area, you need to know either the postcode of the property or in what local authority ward it is in. There is then a search facility on the Inland Revenue website. The postcode search facility is at www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/so/pcode_search.htm
