Stamp duty on inherited house

Postby Les on Tue Sep 14, 2004 9:51 am

Three children, including myself, have inherited mum's house, valued at about £115K when she died. I am executor of mums estate. My brother lived there and still does but is moving out to a new flat as the house is to be sold to share out the inheritance. I have decided, with concent from bro and sis, to take over the house and give them each the monetary equivilent of their share. Will I pay stamp duty? Can I avoid it? Can I just pay the land registry to transfer the property from mum to me?

Thanks in advance.

Ring the Stamp Office (used to be one in Cardiff and Bristol) or check website. Exceedingly helpful, plenty of advice leaflets etc,
