Submitting a VAT return

Postby mathsboy on Tue Nov 28, 2006 4:05 am

With Customs and the Inland Revenue having merged, can a VAT return that would otherwise be submitted late if mailed to the VAT office at Southend-on-Sea be hand delivered to a local HMRC office instead and constitute being on time in much the same way as an SA return can be dropped off at any tax office and be deemed to have been submitted to the correct office on time ?

Pay electronically, Youll get another 5 days to deliver it and then just pop it in the post - saves you a journey ;o)

Usually the local VAT Office do not accept hand delivered VAT return any more, however if they do then this will be considered as being delivered on time. But you will need to ensure that you get a receipt from the local VAT office that it was delivered on time and inform the VAT office that its been delivered at the local office.
