Tax advise on loan/gift from abroad to the UK

Postby sachx005 on Wed Jul 27, 2011 9:49 pm

Hi,

I am living in the UK with indefinite leave to remain. I wish to buy a house in the UK, but am falling short of deposit required for the mortgage. My father who lives in India wishes to help with the deposit by gifting money to the tune of £10000. Can someone advise if this is ok from the UK tax point of view? Would I have to pay any tax in the UK on this money? Would I need to inform ILR?
Thanks.
