Did you not keep any payslips? It is your responsibility.
If you were paid into your bank account, you should be able to get copy statements from the bank, but they may charge you.
If you had tax deducted under PAYE, HMRC should be able to provide copy pay and tax details for each year, assuming that the company filed correct PAYE returns - you would need to give your own address and national insurance number, and the full name and address of your employer.

Perhaps send the returns in with estimated figures, ticking the appropriate box and explaining in the information box why you have done so. That may prompt HMRC to compare your figures with their records and make corrections.

I am sure some people on here will start quoting TMA etc to say that is the wrong thing to do but it is a prectical solution that may prompt HMRC to take pity on you, at the very least it shows you are making an effort to comply.

You paid tax at 55% on what you earned? Ouch.

Why are you doing your Tax Returns for 2007 through 2010? Have HMRC requested you to do so?

If you were an employee of the firm they should have issued a P60 form each tax year. You would have received a copy, as would HMRC.

According to HMRC you only have to do a Tax Return (aka Self Assessment) if you are self-employed, if your income exceeds £100k p.a., or if your income comes from a number of sources, not all of which may have had tax deducted.

Hi there

From my experience HMRC should be able to provide you with a statement of earnings and this also shows how much tax you paid for each of the years. For me it took them less than a week to sent it through.
