timing of payment query

timing of payment query

Postby rogersdavid on Mon Mar 15, 2010 6:30 pm

Hi

Im employed and pay under PAYE tax scheme. Im a temp and get paid a daily rate. Im just wondering about timing. Do I pay tax on all work done up to and including April 5th 2010? Or do I pay tax on the date i receive the money?

I ask because I just started work and would normally fall into the top rate category but as I wont use up my allowances in this tax year I want the maximum amount of days included in this tax year as it represents a decent tax saving...

if its done by payday then all work from the week commencing 29th march (which will get paid on the 9th april) might count as next year instead of this year.

can someone confirm which tax year the work i do on march 29th - april 5th (paid april 9th) will fall into?

also because the 2nd and the 5th april are bank holidays will the work i do on 22 march - 26 march (should be paid april 2nd but probably wont get paid ountil april 6th) be counted in this tax year or next?

many thanks,
David

Hello Roger

Normally the pay date (per payslip) will be the date for tax purposes.
