Just to prove how useless HMRC are at things digital, they introduced a "check the registration" scheme for AWRS (Alcohol Wholesalers Registration Scheme) in April.

To use this, just enter the supplier's URN and it will confirm the registration. BUT the only way to get the URN is to have an invoice from the supplier! Chicken and Egg come to mind.

No wonder this quote from today's MTD article is appropriate.
